The Denver Broncos officially broke ground on the new Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit on Thursday, Aug. 27. The new, state-of-the-art facility is projected to be completed in time for the 2026 season. It will replace the team's current building, which was built in 1990.
The new facility will be roughly 30% bigger and feature upgraded locker rooms, sports performance areas, and meeting rooms, and according to owner and CEO Greg Penner, will show the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group's commitment to making the Broncos the NFL's elite franchise to play and work for.
“Today we break ground on a new headquarters here at Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit. I believe this new facility—like the one we opened 34 years ago—will mark the beginning of the next great chapter in Broncos’ history," Penner said at the ground-breaking ceremony on Thursday. "One of the things we talk about is being the best team to play for, work for and cheer for—a phrase coined by [Owner] Carrie [Walton Penner] when we purchased the team, and it’s reflected in the vision we have for this new facility. As a football-first organization, the facility will be designed with the players in mind. We’ll reduce the player path of travel. We’re going to enhance the sports performance areas. Really the football spaces are just going to be terrific."
The project will be privately funded in its entirety by the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group, and serves as an encore to the groups $100 million investment into various upgrades at Empower Field at Mile High last offseason.
According to team President Damani Leach, it won't just be players and staff members who get to enjoy the new facility.
“As a fan, I think what you’ll notice, one, is just visually. I notice coming and leaving the office each day, you see fans driving by, taking pictures of the building. I think architecturally, it will be a much more visually appealing building," Leach said on Thursday. "So you’ll see fans taking photos of it. I think then when you get to training camp, having the berm on the other side of the field, as we learned this morning, will be a much more comfortable space to sit at and watch practice.”
The Broncos open the 2024 season on Sunday, September 8 when they travel to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Seattle Seahawks. Quarterback Bo Nix is set to be the first rookie Week 1 starting quarterback for the Broncos since John Elway in 1983. The Broncos are currently listed as 5.5-point underdogs against the Seahawks.
